The Spokesman-Review

White Sox 5, Indians 1: At Cleveland, Paul Konerko hit a two-run homer, leading Chicago over the Indians. Mark Buehrle walked one and struck out three, but most importantly, he kept the ball away from Chicago’s horrid bullpen as long as possible in earning the victory.

Athletics 6, Rangers 0: At Oakland, Calif., Lenny DiNardo pitched seven shutout innings and the Athletics beat Texas. DiNardo allowed three hits, struck out three and walked none. The left-hander gave up a pair of doubles and a bunt single.

Royals 6, Red Sox 5: At Boston, Billy Butler doubled in the go-ahead run in a four-run fifth inning and Kansas City defeated the Red Sox. After managing just one hit in the first three innings, the Royals scored twice in the fourth, then went ahead 6-4 in the fifth.

Yankees 6, Blue Jays 1: At New York, Alex Rodriguez hit a go-ahead double in the seventh inning and the surging Yankees beat Toronto. Mariano Rivera entered in the eighth and got five outs for his fourth save in five days. Roger Clemens allowed a season-high nine hits over six innings.

Devil Rays 7, Angels 2: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Ty Wigginton homered and Carlos Pena hit a three-run double to back Scott Kazmir’s strong pitching and lead Tampa Bay to a victory over Los Angeles. Kazmir allowed three hits and one run in seven innings.

Tigers 3, Twins 2: At Minneapolis, Magglio Ordonez homered and drove in all three runs against Johan Santana, lifting Detroit to a victory over Minnesota. Santana threw a season-high 118 pitches. The Twins left 14 runners on base.
