In brief: Fun in the Sun show today

Edgecliff SCOPE will host its fifth annual Fun in the Sun arts and crafts show today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Edgecliff Park, Sixth Avenue and Park Road.

The event features music, a car show and a variety of foods sold by vendors. Area artisans and crafters will display their handiworks, most of which is for sale. The event is open to the public.

SCOPE is the Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort, a neighborhood-based crime prevention program that brings together businesses, residents and law enforcement to enhance community safety and crime awareness.

Peace Corps info session planned

A Peace Corps information session for baby boomers is scheduled Wednesday beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Library, 12004 E. Main Ave. A local Peace Corps volunteer who served after age 50 will host the session. He’ll be joined by a Peace Corps recruiter from the Seattle regional office.

The event is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about the Peace Corps – an independent federal an agency of the United States devoted to world peace and friendship.

Nominate a Community Star

Intermountain Community Bank is accepting nominations for its annual Community Star Program. Every year, the Community Star Program honors one person who is active in the community. The winner of the award gets to choose a nonprofit organization of their choice to receive $1,000.

This year, two awards will be given out; one for the downtown branch and one for the Spokane Valley branch.

To nominate a deserving individual, fill out a nomination form along with a brief paragraph about the nominee. All nominations should be delivered to either branch of the Intermountain Community Bank by Aug. 15. A selection committee will choose the Community Stars by Aug. 22.

Nomination forms can be picked up at either of the bank branches. The downtown branch is at 801 W. Riverside Ave., Suite 400, and the Spokane Valley branch is at 200 N. Mullan Road, Suite 124.
