Meineke Car Care Center is the first business to open in Treaty Rock Center, which will be a five-building business plaza between 420 W. Seltice Way and Interstate 90 in Post Falls.

Meineke’s services and products cover basically everything for a vehicle except the engine. The list includes exhaust, oil, brakes, suspension, steering, tires and wheels.

The company was started in 1970 and is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C. It now has about 900 service centers.

Local owners Mark and Karri Sherman have eight employees in the 4,400-square-foot building.

Born in Texas and raised with a mechanic father in Priest River, Idaho, Mark Sherman was in the Army for 14 years. Karri Sherman is from Post Falls.

Meineke’s hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Call 777-0639.

Developer Mark Doerfler says he expects to announce occupants of the second building, with 8,200 square feet, soon.

This week’s tidbits

“After 27 years running Cocolalla Corner Antiques, Donna Johnson plans to be out of her store by Oct. 1.

The log building and its 6.3 acres 10 miles south of Sandpoint are for sale. Meanwhile, Johnson is having an “everything goes” sale.

“It’s a similar story for Annie Mote, who is closing The Wild Geranium in Appleway Square (U.S. Highway 95 and Appleway) on July 29.

Offering a variety of gift and decor items and antiques, Mote is retiring to her real estate interests with Century 21.

“I’m still trying to find out which rumor is true about TV star Oprah Winfrey – that she bought Duane Hagadone’s Stanley Hill house or one of his condos in the new building above The Coeur d’Alene Resort golf course or two lots on Potlatch Hill. Anybody know?

“Last week, I checked out the Big Sky ski resort development south of Bozeman, Mont. Yes, it’s a big step up from Silver Mountain.

What’s more impressive is the Paradise Valley between Livingston, Mont., and Yellowstone Park. It’s easy to see the interest that celebrities have in that location.
