Sports notebook: Pee Wee playoffs next week

Playoff teams are set in the Pee Wee Divisions, but it will take the final day of Midget competition on Tuesday to settle teams for the beginning of next week’s Spokane Valley Baseball League playoffs.

First two games of the Pee Wee playoffs will be Monday and Wednesday, pitting the top four teams from American and National Divisions against each other. Championship will be July 30.

Midget Division playoffs for the league’s top four finishers will begin Thursday and conclude July 31.

“Jim Frazier Pro and Trophy Shop (Pasadena Park) remains perfect after 11 games in the Midget League. Sunrise is also assured a playoff berth, with four other teams still in the running for the final two spots.

In Jim Frazier’s most recent two wins, Hunter Wells struck out 11 and allowed one hit and two runs in four innings of pitching during a 19-4 win over Sunrise, and was 4-for-5 with two doubles and three runs batted in during a 26-3 win over Conley’s Place.

Carson Driskill went 7-for-10 in the two games, driving in eight runs and scoring seven. Brady Bergman was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs and Garret Kenney was 2-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs against Sunrise.

Conley’s beat Northwest RV 13-7, Miceal Taylor with 12 strikouts in four innings. He also had two hits and drove in three runs.

“Pizza Hut (Greenacres 2) completed a 10-2 season with a pair of American Division wins last week. In a win over McDonald’s Brady Sanders led a 20-hit attack by going 4-for-6 with a triple and double. Devon Sanford was 3-for-4 and Ethan Frazier doubled twice.

In a 16-11 win over Banner Fuel, Josh Quartararo struck out seven and was 2-for-2 at bat. He, Brenden Millikan and Jaedon Crouch each scored three runs.

Spokane County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (Summit) lost for the first time, 19-16 to Wells Fargo Bank (6-6), whose Josh Hager pitched no-hit relief in the final two innings and also tripled in three runs. Hunter Simpson drove in three runs and Patrick Miranne was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Tanner Chase went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs and Simpson homered in an earlier Wells Fargo win.

Summit’s Ethan Arpin had two doubles among three hits and drove in four runs in the loss. Braden Page hit a two-run homer in the team’s 5-0 win over White Elephant.

Spokane Athletic Supply (Otis Orchards 2) remained undefeated through 11 National Division games.

Right behind, Blasingame Insurance (Pasadena Park) completed a 10-1-1 season with 10-9 and 8-1 wins. Michael Chan and Gunnar Cebriak combined for a 10-strikeout 3-hitter in the latter win over Gibson’s Nursery.

In the two games Chan was 5-for-5 with two doubles and a triple and Ryan Hunter went 5-for-6 and scored five times.

A nine-run sixth inning lifted playoff-bound Mark Spear Homeselling past Valley Instant Printing. Nate Tesdahl hit a two-run go-ahead double and Cole Luedtke added a three-run homer.

Trailhead play

Marcia Rowley led the way during weekly competition among Trailhead Ladies Golf Club players.

Rowley shot a 45 during A flight competition. Not far behind was Joy Russell with her B flight leading 49, that included a chip-in on the third hole. Caroline Michielli shot 62 in C flight and Christine McDaniel had 55 in the no-handicap flight.

Net winners were Sandi Hatcher with 30 in A flight, Bev Johnson with 28 in B and Marilyn Collins with 25 in C.

Painted Hills efforts

Jeanne Allemand topped Painted Hills Ladies League competition, but no-handicap player Sharon Meier wasn’t far behind.

Allemand shot a 45 to win A flight with Leann Dunning netting 33. Dunning had a chip-in during her round.

Meier shot 47 during the no-handicap flight.

B flight winner was Carol Grebe with a 54 and Gloria Knause netted 36. In C flight, Cathy Diehl shot 58 and Betty Snow netted 37. D flight went to Lynn Vierling with 62 and Lynn Langford netted 36.

Other chip-ins were recorded by Delores Hanson and Melody Chesnut.

Net Medal play

Net scores following medal play determined the winners of weekly Liberty Lake Women’s 18 Hole Golf competition.

Kathy Brown was A flight winner with 76 followed by Patsy Lynn with 77. In B flight Carol Schultz netted 72 and Reiko Takamori was second with 75.

C flight winner with an overall net best of 69 was Lesley Dunbar ahead of Jean Fulks‘ 74. In D flight, Lynda Sahnow netted 76 and Judy Stroup 78.
