Legion fans lack manners

The Spokesman-Review

I write you this morning to say that I am proud to be a member of the Cannons’ fan base and also a parent. Over the past three nights, the Spokane Cannons American Legion Senior team has played the Pullman Patriots (doubleheader on Monday night), the Bandits (Tuesday night) and the Blue Devils (Wednesday night). I was not only shocked, but somewhat appalled, over the fans’ lack of sportsmanship. It amazes me that a parent can sit in the stands and a player/coach in the dugout and actually blame an umpire for the team’s loss. Where is the respect for all athletes, whether our own child or not? I was very glad that I didn’t have a younger child sitting in the stands with me listening and watching the whole fiasco.

Thank you, Spokane Cannons, for rising above the negativity brought on by the other team and for acting like mature young men. I was proud to sit there and watch you play and show such fine sportsmanship and know one of you was my son.
