Lonnie Lechelt’s solo home run sparked a three-run second inning and put defending national champion Oregon State ahead to stay Tuesday in a 7-3 victory against Virginia in the Charlottesville regional in Charlottesville, VA.

The Beavers (42-18) won for the third time in two days, and beat the Cavaliers (45-16) for the second straight time, to keep alive their hope of defending their title. Oregon State advanced to the Super Regional, where it will host Michigan starting Saturday.

Green goes to Miami

After almost three months of trade negotiations, Kansas City quarterback Trent Green is now reportedly set to become a member of the Miami Dolphins.

Green was traded to the Dolphins for a 2008 fifth-round draft pick that could become a fourth-rounder if he hits playtime incentives, according to FOXSports.com.

“Suspended Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman has been accused of kicking and hitting two men in Monticello, Ga., during the weekend. He has not been charged with a crime, but a magistrate will hear testimony Friday to determine if charges should be filed.

“Hall of Famer Joe DeLamielleure said he takes literally remarks Gene Upshaw, NFL union head, made that he’d like to “break his … damn neck”

“He is the head of a union. He has the wherewithal to do it,” DeLamielleure said.

Upshaw made the comments last week to the Philadelphia Daily News.

“The New Orleans home of one of Marquise Hill’s relatives was burglarized on Saturday, the same day the late New England Patriots lineman was laid to rest.

“Former NFL player Bob Buczkowski pleaded guilty to helping run a million-dollar prostitution ring with his girlfriend out of his parents’ suburban Pittsburgh home.

UA forces third game

Pinch-runner Danielle Rodriguez beat the throw home on Adrienne Acton’s groundout in the 10th inning as Arizona beat Tennessee 1-0 in Oklahoma City, extending the Women’s College World Series to a decisive third game today.

“The Pac-10 women’s basketball tournament will move from San Jose, Calif., to Los Angeles for at least two years starting in 2009, the conference announced.
