WNBA : Jackson rains 3s as Storm fend off Comets

Lauren Jackson scored 21 of her 30 points in the second half when the Seattle Storm broke open a close game and went on to an 84-71 victory over the winless Houston Comets on Friday night in Seattle.

Jackson made a 3-pointer and a baseline jumper at the start of the fourth quarter to give the Storm a 14-point lead.

Hamchetou Maiga-Ba led the Comets with 18 points, while Tina Thompson and Michelle Snow both had 12.

Jackson hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and matched her career high with five in the game.

Betty Lennox finished with 18 points for Seattle.

The Storm were 27 of 33 from the line while the Comets were 11 of 12.

Mercury 89, Fever 78: At Indianapolis, Cappie Pondexter scored 22 points and Diana Taurasi added 21 to lead Phoenix over Indiana, snapping the Fever’s four-game winning streak.

Former Indiana player Kelly Miller added nine points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Mercury.

Shock 75, Sun 72: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Cheryl Ford had 14 points and 16 rebounds and Detroit remained undefeated with a win over Connecticut.

Deanna Nolan added 18 points for Detroit.

Nykesha Sales led the Sun with 18 points, while Lindsey Whalen had 16 and Katie Douglas 15.

Sparks 89, Mystics 80: At Washington, Christi Thomas scored a career-high 25 points and Los Angeles nearly blew a 13-point lead in the second half before holding on for a victory.

LaToya Thomas scored 12 points and Kiesha Brown and Taj McWilliams-Franklin both added 11 for the Sparks.

Sky 73, Liberty 66: At Chicago, Candice Dupree had 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Sky to a victory over New York.

Stacey Dales had 11 points for Chicago. Armintie Price had 10 rebounds and six assists, and Dominique Canty added 10 points for the Sky.
