Man allegedly robs ex-fellow inmate

A Spokane man was in jail Friday after police said he robbed a former fellow inmate near an East Mission Safeway supermarket.

According to court documents, the victim and a friend were in the parking lot at 933 E. Mission on Jan. 17 and approached Gregory M. Bergman, who one of the victims recognized from Geiger Corrections Facility.

The victim extended his hand to shake Bergman’s and said, “Hey Greg, how’s it going?”

Court documents state that Bergman responded by shaking the victim’s hand, then pulled out a small semiautomatic handgun and said, “Give me everything you got. I want bunny ears,” robbery slang for empty pockets.

The two victims handed over their wallets as well as a cell phone. Bergman left with another male in a Nissan Sentra, court documents state. .

Spokane police arrested Bergman about 1:45 a.m. Friday and booked him into the Spokane County Jail on $40,000 bond.

According to court records, Bergman, 31, has convictions dating to 1991 when he was a juvenile. His most recent convictions were for possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree domestic violence assault.
