An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Melissa Barnett-Jones will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Jenny’s Cafe, 9425 E. Sprague.

Barnett-Jones has been diagnosed with a rare type of liver cancer according to a press release. Donations will help pay medical costs. An account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank, No. 939-7047813, c/o Melissa R. Jones/Allen R. Jones.

Farmers’ market opens in Millwood

Millwood’s first farmers’ market will open May 23.

Millwood Presbyterian Church will host the market in the church parking lot, 3223 N. Marguerite, beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesdays through October.

It will include vendors with fresh seasonal produce, artisan breads, wild salmon, natural, local farm-raised beef, flowers, plants, honey, eggs, herbs and country crafts.

Sites offer hot meals for seniors

About 20 seniors have dined weekly at Millwood Presbyterian since Spokane Valley Meals on Wheels started serving lunch there in February, but the group is always happy to see new faces.

A hot meal for those 60 and older is served Mondays at noon.

A donation of $3 is suggested, but no senior is turned away.

Meals on Wheels serves at four locations in the greater Valley area.

Plant sale to aid Vanessa Behan

Continuous Curriculum School Parent Teacher Student Association will hold its annual plant sale Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The school is at 16924 E. Wellesley Ave. and also houses Skyview Elementary.

All proceeds will benefit the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery. In previous years, proceeds were split between CCS PTSA and Vanessa Behan. For more information, contact Gifford at 921-6820.

MIRABEAU

Blow the Whistle walk coming up

The third-annual Blow the Whistle on Asthma 5K walk is scheduled May 19 at Mirabeau Point Park. The event is a fundraiser for the American Lung Association of Washington.

It starts and ends at the park. Start time is 9 a.m. For more information, call 325-6516.
