Illinois defeats Arizona in wheelchair team race
In the first intercollegiate competition featured at Bloomsday, the University of Illinois took home the trophy, beating the University of Arizona 3,875-3,637 in the elite wheelchair division.
Points were totaled from the top two men, top two women and one quad racer’s scores to decide the champion.
Illinois’ Amanda McGrory won the women’s elite wheelchair title with a time of 32 minutes, 43 seconds, coming in three minutes ahead of two-time defending champion Shirley Reilly from the Arizona team.
Joshua George of Illinois finished fourth overall in the men’s wheelchair division to lead the collegians.
