Indians score late, defeat Kittitas

Chad Godley scored from 28 yards out with 1 minute, 53 seconds left in the fourth quarter to break a tie and give Reardan a 34-27 win over Kittitas (7-3) in the first round of the State 2B tournament Friday in Reardan.

The Coyotes’ Bryce Gibb caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Mike Reno in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 27 before the Indians went on a 12-play, 6-minute drive capped by Godley’s game-winning gallop.

Godley finished with 99 yards on 20 carries while Josh Eldred added 23 carries for 146 yards and one touchdown for Reardan (9-1).

Mike Reno completed 12 of 24 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns for the Indians, who will play DeSales next weekend.

In other first round games, Creighton Alford completed 15 of 21 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns as defending state champion Asotin routed host Lind-Ritzville 37-7. Alford added a 7-yard touchdown run for the Panthers (9-2), who outscored the Broncos (7-3) 31-0 in the second half after trailing 7-6 at the half. … La Salle scored 25 second-quarter points and beat visiting Davenport 32-24. Jake Ford ran for 246 yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort for the Gorillas (4-7). La Salle advances to play Asotin in the second round next weekend.

State 2A

Jordan Durbin threw for three touchdowns to lead Prosser to a 40-20 win over visiting Clarkston (9-2) in the first round of the State 2A tournament. Isaac Woodbury threw two touchdown passes to guide the Bantams, who were eliminated. Prosser (11-0) advances to play a quarterfinal game next weekend.

State 1B preliminaries

Odessa jumped ahead to a 40-6 halftime-lead and beat LaCrosse-Washtucna (5-5) 54-6 in a State 1B preliminary game in Odessa. Jacob Schmidt ran for 255 yards and scored three touchdowns to guide Tigers (10-0), who had 374 total rushing yards. Schmidt ran for scores of 67, 74 and 89 yards. Travis Todd added 110 receiving yards and two touchdowns for Odessa, which advances to the first round of the State 1B tournament next weekend. … In another State 1B preliminary game, Corey Horstman threw for three touchdowns to guide Colton/Pullman Christian to a 60-14 rout of visiting Columbia. Horstman connected with Ryan Troll on a 76-yard touchdown strike in the first quarter to open the scoring for the Wildcats (8-2), who outscored the Lions (6-4) 38-6 in the second half. Dillon Williams added two touchdown receptions and a rushing touchdown for Colton/Pullman Christian, who will play at Odessa next weekend in the first round. … Will Hoppes ran for two touchdowns and tossed for two scores to lead Tri-Cities Prep to a 32-24 win over host Cusick (6-5). Hoppes had a 45-yard run for a touchdown in the second quarter and scored from 10 yards out in the fourth. Andrew LeBrun added 61 receiving yards and two touchdowns for the Jaguars (8-3), who will play at Clallam Bay (8-2) in the first round of state next Saturday.
