Vikings’ Peterson to miss a game

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

As Adrian Peterson was prone on the Lambeau Field turf, his football future flashed before his eyes as a searing pain radiated from his right knee.

He spent a sleepless Sunday night at his home in Eden Prairie, Minn., with the worry getting so great that he found himself doing a self-examination of both knees.

After getting an MRI exam Monday, Peterson should be sleeping much better now. At least for the time being.

The rookie sensation, who just a week earlier set the NFL single-game rushing record with 296 yards against San Diego, will miss at least one game with a torn lateral collateral ligament. But the injury is not deemed serious enough to require surgery or jeopardize Peterson’s season.

Henry takes case to NFL

Travis Henry has convinced coach Mike Shanahan he’s not a pothead. Now he’ll take his case to the NFL.

The Denver Broncos’ troubled tailback is trying to keep the league from suspending him over the results of a drug test earlier this season. He’ll present his case to the NFL on Friday.

If he’s unsuccessful, he faces a year’s suspension. Shanahan is confident that won’t be the case. He said Henry passed a lie detector test and a recent hair sample taken from Henry came back negative for marijuana.
