In brief: Spokane man injured in crash

The Spokesman-Review

A motorcyclist was injured shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday when he collided with a car about nine miles north of Reardan, the Washington State Patrol said.

Eric L. Rogers, 35, of Spokane, was traveling north on state Route 231 on his 2005 Suzuki GSXR1000 at a very high rate of speed, according to a press release. He slammed into a 1999 Suzuki Esteem driven by Kevin McGann, 52, of Ford, Wash. McGann was making a left turn into a private driveway when Rogers struck his car, the state patrol said. Rogers, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle.

He was transported by Medstar to Deaconess Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. His condition was unavailable late Saturday. McGann was not injured.

WSP officials said drugs or alcohol were not involved in the crash, but excessive speed is believed to be the cause. The crash remains under investigation

Police search for missing man

Spokane police are looking for a 63-year-old man who suffers from dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

Jerry T. Enos is described as white, 5-foot-7, thin build, with balding brown hair, wearing a blue jacket and black pants. He is probably in the company of black Chihuahua.

Cpl. Tracie Meidl said Enos is paranoid and has a history of falling. He was last seen at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at his adult family home, 2304 E. 5th.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Zoning comments accepted

The Spokane County Planning Commission will continue taking written comments through Friday on numerous zone changes proposed by county commissioners.

About 130 people packed the county commissioners’ 90-seat county auditorium on Thursday, lining the walls and clustered outside the door, listening to testimony regarding some of the changes.

Based on applause, it appeared many in the audience were opposed to a number of proposals to allow more intense uses on Peone Prairie, east of U.S. Highway 2 in the northern part of the county.

Responding to requests, county commissioners sent 13 proposed zone changes in rural areas and six in urban growth areas to the county Planning Commission for hearings without charging the usual fees.

Planning commissioners took no action Thursday, but discussed the possibility of waiting for appeals of environmental reviews to be completed in three of the proposed zone changes. The commissioners plan to begin deliberating at 9 a.m. Oct. 25.

Comments may be emailed to vmerriott@spokanecounty.org or hand-delivered to the Planning Commission office in Suite 202 of the Monroe Court Building at 901 N. Monroe St. until 4 p.m. Friday.

The address for mailed-in comments is: Spokane County Planning Commission, 1026 W. Broadway Ave., Spokane, WA 99260.
