Late OT goal sends Sabres sailing over Leafs
Ales Kotalik scored a power-play goal with four seconds left in overtime to give the Buffalo Sabres a 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night in Buffalo, N.Y.
Kotalik’s slap shot from the left circle was stopped by goalie Andrew Raycroft, but Toronto defenseman Bryan McCabe inadvertently knocked the puck into his own net to give the Sabres the dramatic victory.
Jason Pominville and Jochen Hecht had a goal and an assist each, and Adam Mair and Thomas Vanek also scored for Buffalo.
Sharks 4, Canucks 2: At Vancouver, British Columbia, Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton and Jonathan Cheechoo scored in a 3:20 span early in the third period to break open a tie game and lift San Jose to victory over the Canucks.
Evgeni Nabokov finished with 24 saves, keeping the Sharks in the game early with a handful of highlight stops before the struggling San Jose offense got untracked.
Ducks 6, Red Wings 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Samuel Pahlsson scored a tiebreaking short-handed goal with 10:58 left in the third period to lead the defending champion Ducks over Detroit.
Andy McDonald, Chris Kunitz, Corey Perry and Sean-O’Donnell scored for Anaheim and Ryan Getzlaf had three assists.
Kris Draper, Henrik Zetterberg and Brian Rafalski scored for the Red Wings.
Off the ice
Jesse Boulerice, who last week was given the longest single-season suspension in NHL history for hitting a player in the face with his stick, was placed on waivers by the Flyers. … Anaheim Ducks right winger Todd Bertuzzi was placed on the injured list because of a concussion sustained against Minnesota. … Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik sustained a concussion while being leveled during Saturday’s game in Toronto but is expected to play Wednesday against New Jersey.
