Post Falls outage caused sewage spill

By From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

A power failure Sept. 19 at a Post Falls lift station resulted in somewhere between “2,000 and 10,000” gallons of sewage being spilled on the ground around the city’s Fourth Street treatment facility, city officials said Friday.

Because the system was down, sewage backed up into the basement of the Family Dental Office in the 400 block of Spokane Street, City Administrator Eric Keck said. It was the only building affected, he said.

Keck said the spill occurred around 9 a.m. and about an hour later a city clean-up crew had vacuumed the sewage up from around the lift station and disinfected the area with chlorine.

According to a city press release, the incident was reported to the state. Keck said the faulty part responsible for the spill has been replaced. The city’s insurance policy will cover the cost of cleaning the dental office.
