Pac-10: Dixon rallies Ducks to win over Cardinal
Dennis Dixon threw a career-high four touchdowns and rushed for another score, and No. 13 Oregon scored 34 straight points to pull away from Stanford 55-31 in Pacific-10 Conference play on Saturday night in Stanford, Calif.
Jeremiah Johnson scored the go-ahead touchdown midway through the third quarter and Jonathan Stewart, who rushed for 160 yards on 19 carries, also scored as the Ducks (4-0, 1-0) started with four wins for the second straight season.
Dixon, who was 27 for 36 for 367 yards, hit tight end Ed Dickson along the sideline for a 33-yard scoring toss early in the second half for a 31-31 tie. He also threw TD passes to Cameron Colvin, who had a career day with 136 yards on eight catches, and two to Jaison Williams, who caught seven passes for 113 yards.
Oregon, the Pac-10 leader in scoring and total offense, was held to 48 yards during the second quarter. The Ducks recovered nicely in the second half and finished with 589 yards.
Anthony Kimble rushed for 115 of his career-high 119 yards in the first half but Stanford (1-2, 0-2) lost for the 15th time in the last 18 games. T.C. Ostrander threw for 264 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Ducks, who entered the game third nationally in turnover margin, turned the ball over more in one quarter than their previous three games combined.
Arizona State 44, Oregon State 32
For the second time in three weeks, Arizona State erased a double-digit deficit to remain unbeaten.
Rudy Carpenter threw for 361 yards and four touchdowns and the Sun Devils (4-0, 1-0) defeated the Beavers (2-2, 0-1) in Tempe, Ariz., rallying from a 19-point first-quarter hole.
Carpenter completed 25 of 36 passes and threw an interception. He hit Michael Jones for touchdowns of 43 and 64 yards and connected with Ryan Torain for 7- and 48-yard scores.
Jones caught four passes for a career-high 124 yards, and Torain ran for 91 yards and had a 41-yard touchdown.
Robert James and Troy Nolan each had two interceptions and Justin Tryon picked off one for the Sun Devils.
The Sun Devils survived a shaky start for the second time in three weeks. The Sun Devils spotted Colorado a 14-point lead before rallying for a 33-14 victory on Sept. 8.
Against Oregon State, the Sun Devils trailed 19-0 after the first quarter, and they had been outgained 153-6.
