Rays 13, Yankees 4: At New York, pinch-hitter Shawn Riggans hit a three-run double, Carlos Pena a three-run homer in a seven-run eighth inning, and Tampa Bay roughed up Yankees youngster Ian Kennedy for six runs in a win over New York.
White Sox 8, Tigers 5: At Detroit, A.J. Pierzynski drove in five runs with three hits, including a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the seventh that helped Chicago to the victory over the Tigers.
Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 3: At Toronto, Frank Thomas doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh, Shaun Marcum struck out eight and the Blue Jays won their home opener, beating Boston. Marcum allowed three runs and three hits and walked one over seven innings.
Twins 4, Royals 3: At Minneapolis, Carlos Gomez went 3 for 4 with a double and two stolen bases and Scott Baker recovered from a sluggish first two innings in Minnesota’s victory over Kansas City, the Royals’ first loss of the season.
Athletics 6, Indians 3: At Oakland, Calif., Justin Duchscherer allowed one run in five innings in his first start since 2003, helping the Athletics to a victory over Cleveland that was tempered by the right-hander leaving the game with biceps tendinitis.
Rangers 11, Angels 6: At Anaheim, Calif., Ben Broussard hit a grand slam, Kason Gabbard threw seven shutout innings and Texas spoiled Los Angeles’ home opener.
