Yaks outlast visiting Sasquatch

Yakima Valley and Community Colleges of Spokane finished a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges suspended baseball game and also played a doubleheader Wednesday in Yakima.

Yakima Valley (18-16, 7-11) won the suspended game, which went 12 innings, 9-7 and followed up with a 10-9 victory in the first game of the scheduled doubleheader.

The Sasquatch (15-16, 6-12) bounced back to post a 5-3, 11-inning win in the finale. Five Sasquatch had two hits apiece.

Saby Martinez and Matt Peterson each had three hits for the Yaks in the first game. Bruce Amende had three hits in both the second and third game.

Jordan Johnson hit a home run for the Sasquatch in the second game.

•Gonzaga’s scheduled game against Lewis-Clark State at Washington Trust Field was postponed because of inclement weather. The game has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. on May 12.

Golf

Washington State junior Amy Eneroth (229), a Mead graduate, finished tied for 22nd as the Cougars finished in eighth place at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships at Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.

Paola Moreno of Southern California shot a 1-under-par 212 to finish in first place. Her score helped the Trojans win the team title with an 8-over 860.

•Senior Kelly Nakashima finished in fourth place with an 8-over 224 to lead the Idaho Vandals to a fifth-place showing in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Sunnyside Country Club in Fresno, Calif.

Medalist Laura Luethke of Fresno State shot a 4-over 220 to help the Bulldogs (905) finish in first place – seven strokes ahead of the field.

Nakashima was honored with a first-team all-conference selection, while teammate Amanda Jacobs earned second-team honors.

•Eastern Washington’s Chloe Nelson shot an 11-over 227 to tie for fifth place as the Eagles finished third, three strokes behind champion Portland State, at the Foothills Golf Club in Phoenix. Hannah Bews shot a 4-over 220 to lead PSU and earn medalist honors.

The tournament marked the first time the Eagles have placed as many as three players in the top 10 in the conference championships. Kellie Holmstedt (228) finished seventh for the Eagles and Kristina Gargaro (230) placed 10th.

Football

For the fourth consecutive week the Spokane Shock (3-0) maintained their No. 2 spot behind the defending ArenaCup Champion Tulsa Talons (4-0) in the arenafootball2 coaches’ poll.

The Spokane Shock are rested from their bye week and will play at Central Valley on Saturday.

Rowing

The Gonzaga University men’s varsity 8+ is ranked in the Top 20 for the first time in school history. The Bulldogs are ranked 19th in the USRowing Collegiate Top 20 poll.

Tennis

Agalaya Kokurina became the first Gonzaga women’s player to earn All-West Coast Conference second-team honors. Teammate Emily Anderson was awarded All-WCC honorable mention for the third straight year.
