Indians stage big rally
PASCO – The Spokane Indians added another piece to their remarkable season Monday night.
The Indians rallied from a 7-1 third-inning deficit to topple the Tri-City Dust Devils 13-9 in Northwest League play at Gesa Stadium.
Spokane scored two runs in the fourth, and three apiece in the fifth, sixth and seventh to post its third consecutive win.
It’s impressive enough that the Indians are 35-12 and lead the East Division by five games over Boise. But Spokane has also won 19 of 23 games on the road, for an .826 winning percentage.
Eric Fry went 2 for 5 with four runs batted in for Spokane. Fry’s two-out, two-run double in the sixth put Spokane ahead for good, 9-8.
Jason Ogata, Matthew West and Michael Bianucci had three hits apiece to lead the Indians’ 18-hit night. West hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth.
Cliff Springston (2-1) recorded the win, allowing three hits and no earned runs in two innings. Relievers Springston, Juan Peralta and Dustin Brader worked a combined six innings, allowing one earned run while striking out five.
The three-game series ends tonight. Spokane begins a five-game home series against the Vancouver Canadians on Wednesday.
