Kootenai rolls in opener

Kootenai exploded for 48 points in the middle two quarters of an Idaho North Star League 60-12 home victory over Lakeside on Friday at Harrison, which marked the first weekend of 2008 high school football competition.

Junior back Jake Hall gained 94 yards on seven carries and scored three touchdowns for the Warriors, including an 84-yard kickoff return that came on the heels of Levi Dole’s second score for Lakeside, a 64-yard dash. He also had a run of 67 yards.

Senior Ben Shannon added 80 yards on eight carries and also scored three touchdowns for the Warriors and quarterback Kolton Willms completed six passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

Mullan 30, Clark Fork 6: In another North Star League game, freshman quarterback Casey McKinnon made an auspicious debut when he rushed for 238 yards on 17 carries and scored all four Tigers touchdowns in a home win against the Wampus Cats. McKinnon capped his big night with a 97-yard touchdown run.

Non-league

Moscow 47, Kellogg 18: The visiting Bears scored four times in the second quarter, including on runs of 63, 70 and 60 yards, to break open the non-league contest. Moscow outgained Kellogg 411 yards (275 on the ground) to 252.

Lewiston 30, Pendleton 15: The visiting Bengals opened their season victorious with a victory over their Oregon foe. Grangeville 21, St. Maries 0: The Lumberjacks were blanked by the host Bulldogs on the road in their season opener.
