Think summer: Think movies

The Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Department wants to know which movies residents would like to watch outdoors.

Don’t laugh: The two free movies won’t be screened at Mirabeau Meadows Park until next summer.

What’s more, there’s no need to go outside to vote – not even to pop a ballot in the mailbox. Voting on a selection of movies in two categories may be done over the Internet.

Choices for a family movie are: “Wall-E,” “High School Musical 3,” “Bolt,” “Kung-Fu Panda” and “Nim’s Island.”

Teen flick nominees are: “Iron Man,” “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Princess Bride.”

Don’t like the choices? City officials say they’ll consider write-in candidates as long as they’re rated PG or PG-13.

To vote, go to www.spokanevalley.org and click on “Hot Topics.”

Prefer a polling booth? Fine. Go to CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place, to fill out a ballot. Balloting closes Feb. 9.

The winners will be projected on July 23 and Aug. 20.

Hot meals for cold days offered

The cold and icy weather can make it hard for seniors and the disabled to get out and about.

Spokane Valley Meals on Wheels can deliver hot meals to homes every Monday through Friday for those who qualify. Frozen meals are delivered that can be heated up on the weekend. The volunteer meal delivery drivers also check on each person on their route to make sure everything is going well.

Valley Meals on Wheels serves the area east of Havana to the Idaho state line. Call 924-6976 to sign up for meal delivery.

Quick! Send us storm photos

Would you like to share your snowstorm photos with other Spokane Valley residents? We’ll publish your photos of buried cars, snow sculptures, blizzard bowl football and more, if you e-mail them to us by Monday morning. E-mail them to pictureperfect@ spokesman.com and include caption information, such as names, ages and locations, and provide a daytime phone number in case we have questions. Take a break from shoveling and download those great photos.
