Baseball

The Brett brothers have another “horse” in their stable of sports franchises.

Bobby Brett and his brother, Baseball Hall of Famer George Brett, announced the acquisition of the Bellingham Bells in the West Coast Collegiate League.

It’s the same league in which the Spokane RiverHawks play.

The Bretts’ other organizations are the Spokane Chiefs hockey club and three baseball teams – the Spokane Indians and Tri-City Dust Devils, both in the Northwest League, and the High Desert Mavericks of Adelanto, Calif., in the California League.

Brandon Newell, who played at Nooksack High School and the University of Washington and has been a Milwaukee Brewers scout, will be the field manager of the Bells. Dave Lewis, general manager of the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers the last eight years, is the general manager and a minority owner.
