Roenick wins it for San Jose in shootout

Jeremy Roenick scored the winner in the fifth round of the shootout and Evgeni Nabokov stopped four of Chicago’s five attempts to seal the San Jose Sharks’ 10th consecutive win over the Blackhawks, a 3-2 victory Saturday in San Jose, Calif.

Nabokov made 19 saves in regulation for the Sharks, who earned their fourth victory in five games with regulation goals from Jonathan Cheechoo and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. Craig Rivet and Joe Thornton had two assists apiece for the Sharks, who haven’t lost to the Blackhawks since Oct. 7, 2005.

Nikolai Khabibulin, who’s winless in 10 straight appearances since Dec. 26, made 37 regulation saves, but couldn’t prevent Roenick from lifting a shot over his pads in the fifth round.

Duncan Keith tied it for Chicago early in the third period, moments after Vlasic put the Sharks ahead with his first goal of the season. Patrick Sharp also scored for the Blackhawks, who are winless in four straight.

Canadiens 4, Islanders 1: At Montreal, Alex Kovalev had a goal and an assist and the Canadiens scored three times in the second period in the victory over New York.

Cristobal Huet stopped 29 shots in his 11th straight start for Montreal, which has won six of eight.

Maple Leafs 4, Senators 2: At Toronto, Carlo Colaiacovo and Jason Blake scored third-period goals and the Maple Leafs didn’t commit any penalties in a victory over Ottawa.

Wild 4, Blue Jackets 1: At Columbus, Ohio, Marian Gaborik scored twice and Brian Rolston ran his goals streak to five games to lead Minnesota past the Blue Jackets.

Thrashers 2, Capitals 0: At Washington, Kari Lehtonen had 36 saves in his third shutout of the season and Atlanta beat the Capitals despite playing without leading scorer Ilya Kovalchuk and mustering only 13 shots on goal.

Todd White broke up a scoreless duel with 8:26 left, beating Olie Kolzig with a shot between the circles after taking a centering pass from Mark Recchi. Marian Hossa added an empty-net goal with 40 seconds remaining.

Red Wings 3, Bruins 1: At Boston, Pavel Datsyuk scored the tie-breaking goal early in the third period, Chris Osgood made 22 saves and Detroit won its seventh straight.

Henrik Zetterberg scored his team-leading 31st goal for Detroit, and Brian Rafalski added a power-play score with 5:58 left in the game.

Flyers 3, Ducks 0: At Philadelphia, Mike Knuble scored three straight goals, Martin Biron made 27 saves for his third shutout and the Flyers beat Anaheim.

Playing on the checking line against Anaheim’s top line, Knuble got his first hat trick in 707 career games to help the Atlantic Division-leading Flyers improve to 13-3-1 since they were in last place on Christmas.

Panthers 3, Lightning 2: At Tampa, Fla., Richard Zednik scored the go-ahead goal with 1:05 left in the third and Tomas Vokoun made 44 saves to leadFlorida past the Lightning.

Penguins 4, Hurricanes 1: At Pittsburgh, Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and set up two others during Pittsburgh’s offensive breakout in the third period, and the Penguins turned another strong game by goaltender Ty Conklin into a victory over Carolina.

Devils 6, Kings 3: At Newark, N.J., defenseman Colin White had a goal and an assist to help the Devils end a three-game losing streak with a victory over Los Angeles.

David Clarkson, Patrik Elias, Karel Rachunek, Travis Zajac and Sergei Brylin also scored as the Devils got goals from six players while Martin Brodeur made 23 saves.

Predators 3, Coyotes 2 (OT): At Nashville, Tenn., Alexander Radulov scored at 4:10 of overtime to give the Predators a victory over Phoenix .

Radek Bonk fired a slap shot from above the right faceoff circle that was stopped by Phoenix goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. The rebound bounced off Radulov’s left shoulder and trickled across the goal line.

Avalanche 6, Blues 4: At St. Louis, rookie T.J. Hensick and Ben Guite scored two goals each, leading Colorado to a victory over the Blues.

Jaroslav Hlinka and Tyler Arnason also scored for the short-handed Avalanche, who were missing stars Joe Sakic, Paul Stastny and Ryan Smyth because of injuries.

Stars 2, Flames 1: At Calgary, Alberta, Niklas Hagman scored early in the third period to lead Dallas to a victory over the Flames.

Brenden Morrow also scored for and Marty Turco stopped 31 shots to help the Stars win their third straight game.
