First Presbyterian’s city forum begins Wednesday

Spokane First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., will kick off its 11th Season of Spokane City Forum Wednesday from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The speaker this week is the Rev. Robert J. Spitzer, the president of Gonzaga University.

Spitzer will speak on the topic, “Business Ethics in Spokane – The Good City.”

The cost is $10 for general admission, or $5 for students, and includes lunch.

Child care is available for $4 per child.

•Spokane Falls Community College will present Lama Lhanang Friday at 6 p.m. in the Music/Performing Arts Building auditorium, building 15, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive.

Lhanang, a Buddhist teacher, will speak on the topic “World Peace Through Inner Peace.”

Lhanang also teaches meditation, Anu-yoga, feng-shui, cultural and historical studies and is a practitioner of Tibetan medicine. He is the visiting teacher and spiritual guide for Wisdom Path Centers.

•Catholic Charities will present the “Eastern Washington Legislative Conference,” Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside Ave.

The event will discuss faith, advocacy, policy briefings from the Washington State Catholic Conference and the Lutheran Public Policy Office and environmental priorities with the Earth Ministry on Faith and Environment.

The cost is $20 per person and includes lunch.

•The John Paul II Club at Gonzaga University will sponsor Catherine Brown Tkacz Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Gonzaga University College Hall, Room 203, 502 E. Boone Ave.

Tkacz will speak on the topic, “Women and the Incarnation.” The lecture will focus on the theological implications of the Incarnation as a re-sanctification of both men and women.

Fundraisers

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., will offer a soup and sandwich luncheon after Divine Liturgy Sunday.

The Ladies Philoptochos (Friends of the Poor) will accept donations for the Kids ‘n’ Cancer Agape Camp Ministry of the Metropolis of San Francisco Ladies Philoptochos Society.

Divine liturgy begins at 10 a.m.

Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall St., is hosting its annual Food Fight during the month of February.

The food drive pits the men versus the women to see who can bring in the most nonperishable food. The church collected almost a ton of food last year.

The losing team will cook dinner for the winning team.

Lenten activities

Manito United Presbyterian Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., will present its second movie of “Films of Faith – Lenten Movie Series” Saturday at 4 p.m.

This week’s movie will be “The Hiding Place,” which features middle-aged sisters working in a watchmaker’s shop in pre-World War II Holland. Soon the Nazis come and change their lives.

The church will provide fee soda and popcorn, and there will be a discussion after the movie.

The Christian Singles Fellowship will hold its February meeting Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of North Addison Baptist Church, 6120 N. Addison St.
