No. 7 LSU beats No. 1 Tennessee

Sylvia Fowles had 17 points and 14 rebounds and No. 7 LSU grabbed the Southeastern Conference women’s basketball lead with a 78-62 win over No. 1 Tennessee on Thursday night at Knoxville, Tenn.

LSU (21-3, 9-0 SEC) remains the only SEC team without a conference loss.

Fowles led a balanced offensive attack for the Lady Tigers. Erica White added 16 points, Quianna Chaney had 14 points, RaShonta LeBlanc had 11 and Ashley Thomas and Allison Hightower both added 10.

Candace Parker led Tennessee (22-2, 8-1) with 26 points and had 10 rebounds.

(4) Maryland 78, Boston College 51: At College Park, Md., Marah Strickland scored a career-high 20 points and the Terrapins (26-2, 10-1 ACC) cruised to a win over the Eagles (17-8, 5-5).

(6) Stanford 69, Arizona 46: At Stanford, Calif., Candice Wiggins scored 19 points and the Cardinal (23-3, 12-2 Pac-10) won their 11th straight, beating the Wildcats (9-15, 3-10).

(9) California 70, Arizona St. 60: At Berkeley, Calif., Devanei Hampton had 21 points and 12 rebounds and the Golden Bears (22-3, 13-1 Pac-10) finish off their first regular-season sweep against the Sun Devils (16-8, 10-3).

Men

(9) Butler 89, Youngstown St. 73: At Indianapolis, Mike Green scored 17 points, and the Bulldogs (23-2, 12-2 Horizon League) beat the Penguins (8-17, 4-11) for their seventh straight win.
