Braves’ late run bounces Bulldogs

Jeremy Crouch’s jumper with 11 seconds left capped Bradley’s 12-2 run that gave the Braves a 72-71 victory over No. 16 Drake on Tuesday night in Des Moines, Iowa, the Bulldogs’ first home loss of the season.

Crouch scored 23 points to lead the Braves (16-12, 9-7 Missouri Valley Conference), who held Drake (23-3, 14-2) scoreless for the final 5 minutes.

Drake’s Klayton Korver missed an open jumper and Josh Young’s desperation shot hit the rim as time expired.

(13) Connecticut 65, DePaul 60: At Hartford, Conn., Hasheem Thabeet had 16 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocked shots and the Huskies (21-5, 10-3 Big East) rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat the Blue Devils (10-15, 5-8) to extend UConn’s winning streak to 10.

Craig Austrie had 14 points and Jeff Adrien added 12 points and 11 rebounds for UConn, which outscored the Blue Demons 27-7 over the last 10:30 of the game.

(15) Indiana 77, (14) Purdue 68: At Bloomington, Ind., Eric Gordon scored 22 points and the Hoosiers (22-4, 11-2 Big Ten) beat the Boilermakers (21-6, 12-2) in Indiana’s last game before the completion of the school’s investigation into accusations that coach Kelvin Sampson committed major rules violations.

Women

Epiphanny Prince scored 18 points, Matee Ajavon added 15 and No. 5 Rutgers overcame an 8-minute scoreless drought to beat No. 14 Notre Dame 57-51 in Piscataway, N.J.

The win was the 798th of Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer’s career. She is aiming to become the third women’s basketball coach to win 800 games, joining Pat Summitt and Jody Conradt. Rutgers travels to Providence on Saturday before hosting DePaul next Wednesday.
