Girls basketball: Scotties rout Bulldogs

Carley Heinen and Megan McIntyre scored 12 points apiece to lead Freeman to a 65-29 win over Cashmere in a 1A regional tournament game Tuesday at Freeman.

Kelsey Raines added 10 points for the Scotties, who outscored the Bulldogs 20-8 in the second quarter to take a 35-18 halftime lead.

Free-throw shooting was a major factor. Freeman (22-2) was 17 of 23 from the line while Cashmere made 5 of 17 free throws.

The Scotties advance to play Lake Roosevelt Friday at West Valley, with the winner earning a spot in the state tournament. Lake Roosevelt advanced after beating Brewster 60-58.

In other tournament games, Sadie Lazzarini scored 16 points and Megan Teade and Abby Bruya added 11 apiece as Colfax whipped visiting Okanogan 72-18. Colfax outscored Okanogan 63-9 in the final three quarters. Kayla Johnson added eight points, eight rebounds and four assists for Colfax (19-4). … Leslie Stillar scored eight points and Lexie Zappone added seven as Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) edged Chelan 36-34 in Chelan. The Eagles outscored the Goats 11-5 in the fourth quarter to erase a four-point third-quarter deficit. Chelan missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have won them the game. Lakeside (14-11) will play Colfax on Friday at West Valley for a state berth.

Korina Baker scored 17 points and Courtney VanderLind and Averi Hallman added 11 as Mt. Spokane beat host North Central 55-45 in the final Greater Spokane League game of the season. The Wildcats outscored the Indians 29-21 in the second-half to put the game away. Andrea Depaolo had a team-high 12 points for NC (4-16). Mt. Spokane (6-14) will play East Valley (7-13) Thursday at Rogers for the two seeds to the regional tournament. The Indians’ season is over.

Gabrielle Daily hit an 8-foot jumper at the buzzer to give Medical Lake a 41-40 Great Northern League victory over Cheney in ML. Daily finished with 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Cardinals (10-9, 8-5), who fell behind 18-6 in the first quarter but responded with an 18-3 run in the second to take a three-point halftime lead. Kyle Miller had 17 points and Ceri Palk added 13 to guide the Blackhawks (9-11, 7-7).
