Hockey lessons start Saturday

Learn to Play Hockey and Learn to Skate lessons begin Saturday and run for six weeks at the Ice Palace.

Lessons are for ages 4 and up, and adults are encouraged to participate. Parent/Tot lessons are also available beginning Tuesday.

The cost of $59 includes skate rental and five admissions to the Ice Palace. Pre-register at www.spokaneparks.org or call 625-6601.

Carrousel closed until Feb. 29

Riverfront Park’s 1909 Looff Carrousel is closed for its annual maintenance and restoration. The 100-year-old Carrousel will reopen Feb. 29, just in time for its centennial anniversary.

Spokane’s Looff Carrousel is on the National Register of Historic Places and features 54 horses, one giraffe, one tiger, and two Chinese dragon chairs.

The Carrousel is open daily all year except during annual maintenance.

‘Nate the Great’ auditions planned

Auditions will be held for Spokane Children’s Theatre’s production of “The Adventures of Nate the Great” Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. and Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. at Spokane Community College 1810 N. Greene St. in the Lair Auditorium.

Director Jan Canfield is looking for eight to 10 boys and eight to 10 girls ages 6 to 15. No preparations are necessary. Auditioners will read from the script. For more information call 328-4886 or the Web site at www.spokanechildrenstheatre.org.

Scholarships for glass class

The Spokane Art School is offering 14 scholarships for low-income teens for its “Printmaking on Glass” class held Feb. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Clay Connection, 714 E. Sprague Ave.

Students ages 13 to 18 can fill out applications for the scholarships which include the class and lab fees. The deadline to register is Jan. 21 and the scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

The class will discuss fusing glass and using printmaking techniques on glass.

Applications for the scholarship are available by calling the art school at 328-0900.

Help plan NCHS anniversary

North Central High School alumni are invited to attend another planning meeting for the school’s 100th Anniversary celebration Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the school’s library, 1600 N. Howard St.

The planning meeting will discuss activities for the celebration which will begin this spring and continue through the fall. For more information, or if you cannot attend the meeting but would like to participate in the committees, call Darlene Linahan at 354-6183 or 354-6300.
