Cowgill helps Yakima rally past Indians

The Spokesman-Review

YAKIMA – The Spokane Indians saw their four-game winning streak come to a crashing halt, thanks to Yakima’s one-man wrecking crew Collin Cowgill.

Cowgill belted three home runs and singled to start a game-winning two-out rally in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Yakima Bears to a 9-8 Northwest League victory over the Indians.

Cowgill hit two-run home runs in the third and fifth innings to stake the Bears (7-9) to a 4-0 lead. His third homer, a solo shot in the ninth, sent the game into extra innings.

Spokane rallied from a 5-1 deficit, scoring three runs in the seventh and two in the ninth to take a 6-5 lead.

The Indians (11-5) scored twice in the 11th when Joey Butler walked and when Justin Pickett’s double got past Yakima right fielder Roberto Rodriguez. Pickett scored on Eric Fry’s sacrifice fly.

With two outs and Cowgill on first in the 11th, an error by Spokane shortstop Edward Koncel opened the floodgates.
