No unbeatens remain in softball league
No team was left unbeaten entering the final week of Spokane Valley Girls Softball.
Baker Construction in the 12U League was the final team to suffer a blemish when Dana Graphics won 14-9.
That left four teams in four divisions at 7-1 with two games remaining and two others with a single loss as well.
Two of the 7-1 teams are in the 16U League with Dairy Queen and Home Run Construction tied for first place and assured no worse than a tie for the regular-season title.
Dairy Queen beat Farrell Spray 7-4 behind Ashley McCarty’s eight-strikeout pitching and 4-for-4 effort at the bat.
Home Run Construction beat Old Country Buffet 12-2, Ryleigh Riggin with two doubles and Allie Riggin with a double and two runs batted in.
In the league’s other game, Meegan Watson and Amanda Oliver of Tri Diamond (6-3) each doubled and drove in two runs in a 12-2 win over BNSF. Pitcher Rachel Honodel had eight strikeouts.
Old Country Buffet (6-1) in the 14U League has a game lead in the loss column over three other teams. OCB won 10-7 over runner-up Spokane Transfer (6-2) to take over undisputed first place.
Spokane Transfer came back for a 17-3 victory over All Wall as Jordyn Anderson hit a two-run double.
BSNF (5-3) won twice last week. In one win, Jessica Mitchell struck out 12 and went 2-for-3, and Ashlee Jensen hit two doubles and a home run in a 4-for-4 effort. Brittnay Connor and Kierdra Bruno hit home runs in Jewell Excavating’s win.
Baker Construction (7-1) leads Dana Graphics and Sir Speedy (both 6-2) in the 12U league with Standard Brother Lumber (5-2-1) right behind.
Standard Brother and Old Country Buffet tied 19-19 last week. Reported highlights: Mariah Hoadley and Alexis Knopp of Marz Mountain each hit home runs, and Gabi Whitt of BNSF had eight strikeouts.
BNSF (7-1) tops the 10U League followed by Mega Wash (6-1), F&F Foundation (5-1) and Sir Speedy (7-2). BNSF topped Old Country Buffet 16-11 with Makayla Shay 3-for-3. OCB’s Courtney Carolan hit two home runs and a triple.
Mega Wash won by scores of 22-4 – Shayden Clark with a grand slam home run – and 15-3. Kindel Moe, Aubrey West and Madison Weiler all went 4-for-4. Sir Speedy edged Greenacres Gypsum 17-15, and Summit Electric 4-3, Anndee Meyers driving in Hannah Hendricksen with the winner. Greenacres Gypsum’s Kristin Birdsill hit two three-run home runs in a 14-12 win over Osprey.
One week to go
Spokane Valley Baseball teams enter the final week of their seasons on Monday with two games remaining each.
They began this past week with Intermountain Fabricators clinging to a tenuous Midget League lead in what remains a four-team race.
The South Pines team (6-1) won twice for a slight advantage over River City Pizza (6-2), Brad DeCounter DDS (5-1) and Summit (5-2)
River City Pizza (Otis Orchards) beat Autocraft 7-4 and Spokane Recycling 4-2 in most recent reports. Pitcher Ricky Davis allowed one hit and struck out 13 in the two outings and was 4-for-6 and scored four runs. Steve Bundy was also 4-for-6.
Summit beat Spokane Endodontics and Damon and Magusson Orthodontics 10-6 and 10-7. Braden Page came in to pitch out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam in the latter, and Ethan Arpin doubled in two runs. Earlier in the week Daniel Dach hit two doubles and drove in two runs, Colin Gessler tripled and singled for two RBIs and Jackson Axtel hit a double and a triple.
Noah Sherwood-Rich and Andrew Allen combined to strike out 18 batters in a six-inning 6-3 win for Spokane Recycling.
In the Pee Wee League, Spokane Athletic Supply (8-0) remained perfect with 4-0 and 16-7 victories. Hunter Liberg pitched an eight-strikeout no-hitter during his stint in the first win. During the second win, Michael Chan was 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three runs batted in. He and fellow pitcher Gunnar Cebriak divided 16 strikeouts.
Also Austin Stevens was 3-for-4, Ross Vermillion and Braxton Swenson both 2-for-2 and the trio combined for seven RBIs.
Right behind is McDonald’s (7-1). The Liberty Lake team won 12-2 and 4-3. Tanner Sloan and Jaeden Crouch combined for 18 strikeouts in the second win and Brandon Carlson was 4-for-4, hitting for the cycle (single, double, triple and home run). Cameron Schneider allowed no hits and struck out seven in the narrow win over Banner Fuel (5-2).
Valley Electric (5-3) had four home runs in a win. Nathan Awberry hit two homers and allowed one run in three innings pitching. Andrew Saty and Justin Warren hit the other homers.
Women’s Golf
Liberty Lake Ladies 18-Hole Club conducted medal play on Tuesday.
GiSue Peters shot 85 to record low gross score and win A flight. Carole Blume shot 94 in B Flight, Lee Sonderman shot 100 in C and Myrna Neubauer 115 in D.
Net winners were Billie Etter with 73 in A flight, Jean Hatcher with 71 in B, Marie Nelson with 73 in C and Marion Jordan with 77 in D.
