Red Sox 9, Yankees 2: At Boston, Manny Ramirez doubled twice and drove in two runs while David Ortiz homered and drove in three runs as the Red Sox ended New York’s 8-game winning streak. Boston moved one game behind East leader Tampa Bay.

Twins 4, Indians 2: At Cleveland, Justin Morneau sparked a two-run, ninth-inning rally with an RBI double and Minnesota beat the Indians. Matt Guerrier got three outs in the eighth for the win.

Tigers 6, White Sox 4: At Detroit, Curtis Granderson and Marcus Thames homered and the Tigers beat Chicago to avoid a three-game sweep. Miguel Cabrera drove in two runs and Ivan Rodriguez went 4 for 4 for Detroit.

Orioles 5, Angels 2: At Baltimore, the Orioles ended their run of 15 straight losses in Sunday games, defeating Ervin Santana and Los Angeles behind a sharp pitching performance by Garrett Olson. George Sherrill worked the ninth for his 30th save, matching the total of the entire Baltimore staff in 2007.

Royals 6, Rays 1: At Kansas City, Billy Butler homered and drove in four runs, Kyle Davies picked up his first victory in more than a month and the Royals beat Tampa Bay to salvage a split of their four-game series. Butler has four homers and 14 RBIs in nine games since the All-Star break.

Athletics 6, Rangers 5: At Oakland, Jack Cust and Kurt Suzuki homered and A’s reliever Brad Ziegler set the major league record for scoreless innings to start a career in Oakland’s win over Texas. Ziegler extended his scoreless streak to 27 innings.
