People: She’s eternally 12 years older
Mariah Carey really did get married to Nick Cannon in the Bahamas last week – and they have the tattoos to prove it.
The 39-year-old singer and the 27-year-old actor confirmed to People magazine that they tied the knot at Carey’s Bahamian estate April 30 after a courtship that began in late March.
Cannon says they clicked instantly when Carey cast him as a lover in the video for her new single, “Bye Bye.”
“We had so much in common spiritually, and we laugh at the same things,” he says.
“I didn’t have to put on my Mac Daddy suave mode. I was able to be myself with her. We are both eternally 12 years old.”
Carey says she told “only about four people” about the wedding in advance.
Were her friends surprised?
“Some were, but some weren’t,” she says. “One thing (few people) knew was we got tattoos a few weeks earlier. So anyone who saw my (Mrs. Cannon) tattoo wasn’t surprised.”
Adds Cannon: “To me rings are special and exciting, but tattoos mean more than anything.
“They’re forever and ever. They professed our love.”
Officer and a single man
It’s over, meanwhile, between Lt. Andy Baldwin, star of “The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman,” and girlfriend Marla Maples.
The couple have split up because of his recent move to Washington, D.C.
Baldwin, 31, was originally engaged to his final “Bachelor” pick, Tessa Horst, but they broke that off last August.
After he returned from a mission to Palau late last year, he began seeing the 44-year-old Maples, best known as Donald Trump‘s ex.
If views could kill …
Star Jones, who recently filed for divorce from banker Al Reynolds, is none too pleased with new memoir by Barbara Walters, her former boss on “The View.”
Walters writes about their lavish wedding – in which Jones accepted gifts in return for promotion – and Jones’ refusal to acknowledge her gastric bypass surgery on the air.
In Us Weekly magazine, Jones fires back, noting Walters’ admission of an affair in the 1970s with married U.S. Sen. Edward Brooke:
“It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book.”
Palpable fiction?
A Wall Street Journal reporter who was on the jury for the Uma Thurman stalking trial says some jurors wondered whether the actress exaggerated her fear of Jack Jordan.
The formed mental patient was found guilty Tuesday of stalking and aggravated harassment and faces up to a year in jail.
Emily Steel tells how one juror joked that Thurman “isn’t that great an actress, but that her delivery on the witness stand was the most heartfelt performance he’d ever seen her give.”
