Survey ranks Spokane high in crime

Spokane has a higher crime rate than Seattle or Portland, according to an annual survey released Monday.

Out of 385 cities ranked by the amount of crime from best to worst, the Lilac City comes in at 263, according to the CQ Press City Crime Rankings. Spokane Valley ranked 87th, Seattle and Portland were 221st and 245th, respectively.

The central Idaho cities of Sun Valley and Shoshone are located near the top of list for safety.

Boise is 128th in the nation. Coeur d’Alene was not included in the survey.

The ranking is based on the number of murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft reports per 100,000 people.
