They’re doing it for the children.

That seems to be the mantra of movie stars David Duchovny and Téa Leoni, who released a joint statement that admitted what everybody else seemed already to know.

Their marriage is beyond over.

“In light of continuous speculation over the lives and marriage of Téa Leoni and David Duchovny, the couple have confirmed that they have in fact been separated for several months,” the statement says. “The couple had hoped to keep this separation private for the sake of their children.”

Said kids are Madelaine West, 9, and Kyd, 6.

Duchovny recently completed a rehab program for sex addiction. But the London tabloid Daily Mail contends the breakup was because of Leoni’s infidelity.

The Mail says Duchovny discovered explicit text messages on his wife’s cell, sent by none other than Billy Bob Thornton, 53.

Kids: Better by the half-dozen

“Dances With Wolves” auteur Kevin Costner, 52, and his wife, German handbag designer Christine Baumgartner, 34, are expecting their second child, his rep told Agence France-Presse. The couple already have a 1-year-old son, Cayden Wyatt Costner.

Costner has three kids from his marriage to Cindy Silva and a fourth from a relationship with Bridget Rooney.

It’s better than ‘Stoned Again’

Eminem says the title of his next CD will be “Relapse.” The Detroit rapper made the announcement on Sirius Satellite’s on-air launch party for his book “The Way I Am.”

Love again – for the moment

Jennifer Aniston was spotted celebrating ex-boyfriend John Mayer’s 31st birthday at an exclusive Beverly Hills cigar bar. And so Us Weekly reports that the couple has reconciled.

Let’s boycott her next CD

Madonna performed a show Wednesday night in Boston just after announcing that she and Guy Ritchie were divorcing. In that spirit, she reportedly dedicated her tune “Miles Away” to the “emotionally retarded.”

“You may know a few people like that,” she said. “God knows I do.”

Your good news item of the day

ABC has canceled producer Ashton Kutcher’s game show “Opportunity Knocks” after three episodes. The series boasted a brilliant gimmick: The show’s set and crew went to the contestants’ front lawns.

His condition not so ‘Desperate’

Officials at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center said Thursday that “Desperate Housewives” actor Gale Harold is improving after suffering serious injuries in a Tuesday motorcycle accident. Harold, the boyfriend of Teri Hatcher’s character on the ABC show, had swelling on the brain and a fractured shoulder.
