Retail store opens with ‘Chic’ fashion

Cheney Chic, 502 ½ First St., Cheney, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday at 11:30 a.m.

The new business specializes in women’s fashions for juniors, misses and plus sizes.

Visitors to the ceremony will get a chance to tour the store, meet the owners and enjoy refreshments.

Fashion, libations at Spring Mixer

Jaazz Salon, 120 College Street, Cheney, will host a Spring Mixer today from 7 to 10 p.m.

The event will include appetizers, hosted beer and wine, a fashion show featuring clothing from Cheney Chic, door prizes and music.

Wildlife refuge springs activities

Spring activities commence at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge, 26010 S. Smith Road, south of Cheney.

Project Budburst, April 18 from 10 a.m. to noon, will teach participants how to track the effects of weather change and how to identify and observe specific plants.

There is no cost for the class, but there is a $3 gate charge per car, unless you have a National Wildlife Refuge pass or Duck Stamp.

On April 25 and May 2, a pine needle basket making class will be offered at the refuge, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost is $15 per person for materials. The $3 gate fee also applies. A sack lunch is suggested.

Evening egg hunt for scholarships

The 11th annual Flashlight Egg Hunt will be Saturday at Hays Park, 1700 E. Providence Ave. and Crestline. The hunt begins at 7:45 p.m. for kids ages 4-6, 8:30 p.m. for kids ages 7-9, and 8:45 p.m. for kids ages 10-13.

The event features glo-bunnies to help hunters find eggs filled with candy and prizes. A flashlight, bag, and weather-appropriate clothing are required for all participants.

Cost is $8 per child. Pre-registration is required by Friday.

The event is a fundraiser for Kids-Helping-Kids. Proceeds will support scholarships for low-income children in the Hillyard community.

Riverfront Park

Easter egg hunt at Looff Carrousel

Kix 96 and Riverfront Park will host the annual Easter Egg Hunt in the Park on Saturday at noon.

Children are asked to arrive early at the Looff Carrousel, where they will be divided into age appropriate groups. Approximately 5,000 plastic eggs filled with prizes are being given away by Kix 96 at the event.

Northern Quest to host ’50s dance

Northern Quest Casino, 100 N. Hayford Road in Cheney, will host the 11th annual Oldies Dance to support the American Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes East on April 18 at 6 p.m. in the Pend Oreille Pavilion.

The ’50s dance will help send more than 130 kids to a weeklong camp at Ross Point in Post Falls this summer. Over half of the kids going to the camp have been diagnosed with cancer.

The rockin’ evening includes live music by Sharkey and the Fins, good food, and a silent auction.

Tickets are $20 per person.
