My Place offers new option for eclectic Italian

Featuring breakfast and lunch daily and “couples’ dinners” on Fridays and Saturdays, My Place Restaurant will open this week at Sherman Avenue and 18th Street, Coeur d’Alene.

“The menu will be slightly eclectic with an Italian influence,” said chef Frank Ciccone. His boss is Rocco Zito, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., who came to Coeur d’Alene eight years ago from San Francisco after seeing a magazine article about the area.

The site of several previous eateries, the facility will seat 44 customers with hours of 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily and 6-9 p.m. for the Friday-Saturday dinners. The place will focus on serving adults, Zito said. He recommends dinner reservations by phoning (208) 665-2277. My Place will have eight employees.

Fine gifts at Magic Marble

Gold-plated, gem-inlaid marble elephants, vases and candle holders and intricately carved wooden gifts are the specialties of The Magic Marble in Appleway Square across from the Pizza Factory at Highway 95 and Appleway.

Moving from a previous location in Silver Lake Mall, the store sells handmade items from India. The selection includes jewelry, clocks, key chains, chimes, home décor and jewelry boxes.

“The marble is the finest Makarana marble,” said owner Parul Joshi, “with 20 karat gold. All the marble items are handmade.” Joshi previously worked in motels, attended classes and saved her money to start her “dream” shop by working as a retail clerk at area department stores.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone (208) 667-9624.

h.i.p. salon opens downtown

Also living her dream of having her own place, Heidi Potter on Monday will open h.i.p. salon at 200 N. Fourth St. in downtown Coeur d’Alene. The h.i.p. stands for hair-inspired professionals, who include Potter and four associates.

A Coeur d’Alene native, Potter attended beauty school and has worked in area shops for 10 years.

“It is truly the best job and very rewarding to make people feel so good,” Potter said. “I always wanted to open my own salon, and in January I found the perfect spot. A rush went over me like ‘This is it!’ ”

Potter’s hair associates are Shannon Harrison, Heather Poole, Lindsey Hoffman and Janay Smidt. She has one position available. The salon’s exclusive product lines are Unite Euro Therapy and J Beverly Hills.

The salon is open Monday through Saturday. Phone (208) 664-2228. Walk-ins are welcome.

This week’s tidbits

•Increasing in size and moving for the construction of a future multiple-tenant housing project in its former space, Idaho Youth Ranch Thrift Store now is two doors north at 845 N. Fourth St.

Helping raise money for the Anchor House facility for at-risk boys, the store sells all manner of items, with the exception of large appliances. Donations should be in sellable condition. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 Sundays.

Although Idaho Youth Ranch has 31 thrift stores in the state, the Coeur d’Alene store is the only one in North Idaho. Anyone with another possible location may contact Tisha Parrott at (208) 861-8321.

•The largest job fair in Kootenai County will be noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, 4056 N. Government Way. The fair has 10 sponsors in addition to the area chambers of commerce and North Idaho College.

•Retired disc jockey and local radio announcer Bob Hough of Post Falls is still into music. He and his wife Colleen are grandparents of Julianne Hough, who was honored as the New Artist of the Year last week on the Country Music Association annual awards TV show. She’s also known for her footwork on “Dancing with the Stars.”
