Proof of dirty politics

The Spokesman-Review

I watched in alarm as a journalist for FireDogLake and Campaign Silo blogs, Mike Stark, asked several Republican representatives in Washington, D.C., whether or not they believed that President Obama was a U.S. citizen or whether they agreed with the fruitcake whackos section of the Republican Party – the “birthers” who say that President Obama is not a U.S. citizen and therefore ineligible to be our president.

One of those people he interviewed was our esteemed representative, Cathy McMorris Rodgers. In an utterly contemptible response, she said that she would like to see the proof that Obama is a U.S. citizen.

Now let me emphasize how shameless her response was: A U.S. congresswoman and our representative in Congress announced to the world that she is not sure if Barack Obama is qualified to be president of the United States. She would like to see the evidence. Never mind that his birth certificate has been posted online, along with the birth announcement in the Honolulu newspapers. Never mind that the Republican governor of Hawaii has personally vouched that the birth certificate and the announcement are genuine.

This is dirty politics, plain and simple. This is McMorris Rodgers putting her party ahead of her country. Her constituents in Washington’s 5th Congressional District deserve better.
