In this AP photo, Grandpa Woodstock shows a peace sign as he walks with his wife Queen Estar in Bethel, N.Y. The couple were attendees of the original 1969 music festival. A concert at Bethel Woods commemorated the 40th anniversary today, and from all reports, it was anticlimactic, even with Richie Havens performing for the news media.

I nearly fell off my chair laughing when I saw this picture, as there have been hundreds of times I have asked myself whatever happened to those who actually attended the three day event at Yasgur’s farm. Grandpa Woodstock grew older and his wife grew what appears to be a beard if you look closely enough.

Nobody ever suggested we got more gracious, beautiful or articulate as we age. Sometimes we just become befuddled, and live our lives in the past.
