Bouldin makes Wooden list

Gonzaga University’s Matt Bouldin is one of 50 college basketball players named to the 2009-10 John R. Wooden Award preseason list for player of the year.

Bouldin, who will be a senior guard, averaged 13.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game last season for the Zags.

He becomes the eighth Bulldogs player to make the list.

University of Washington guard Isaiah Thomas, who will be a sophomore, also made the list.

Golf

Sierra Bezdicek of Colbert won two matches to advance to today’s championship match at the 54th PNGA Junior Girls Amateur Championship at Fairwood Golf & Country Club in Renton, Wash.

Bezdicek, 14 years old and seeded 14th, defeated Kristen Rue of Gig Harbor, Wash., in 19 holes in the quarterfinals, then beat Lauren Sewell of Renton 1 up in the semifinal.

She’ll play top-seeded Seo Hee Moon of Mukilteo, Wash., in today’s 18-hole final.

Women’s soccer

Washington State is ranked 22nd in the Soccer America preseason poll.

The Cougars will open their season at 3 p.m. Friday against visiting Idaho.
