Collision involving grain truck closed roads

A 17-year-old Spokane driver behind the wheel of 1990 Freightliner truck collided with a fully loaded grain truck at the intersection of two Whitman County farm roads, the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office reported over the weekend. Briley Startzel was headed east on Chambers Road on Saturday when he apparently failed to yield to a grain truck that was southbound on Johnson Road about six miles south of Pullman, deputies said. The driver of the 1979 Mack grain truck was identified as Leslie Hinderer, 51, of Pullman. The intersection was closed for about two hours, and the truck had to be towed away. Neither driver was injured, deputies said. Startzel was cited for failure to yield right of way and for having expired tonnage for his vehicle, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Chapman.
