Car show will feature 1928-’31 Model As

Northwood Presbyterian Church, 6721 N. Monroe St., will have a car show and ice cream social Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Show and Shine Auto Club will display 15 Model A Fords from the years 1928 to 1931.

The event will include games and music.

Events at St. Patrick

•The Missionaries of Charity Sisters will hold a Novena of Prayer to Jesus Christ today through Sept. 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 5021 N. Nelson St.

The prayer hours will include eucharistic adoration, Scriptural meditations on the mysteries of the rosary, and reflections by priests about Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

There will also be a memorial Mass Sept. 5 at 10:30 a.m. to commemorate the death of Mother Teresa, who died in 1997.

•St. Patrick Catholic School will host its annual golf tournament and dinner Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. at Pasadena Ridge Golf Course, 4710 N. Pasadena Lane, Spokane Valley.

The event is $50 for golf and dinner or $25 for dinner without golf. The proceeds will benefit tuition scholarships for low-income families of students.

The tournament is limited to 56 registrants. The deadline to register is Tuesday.

Music

Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., will present a concert in the park Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Scheduled to perform are the Turner Fiddlers, Ransome and Mary and a group from the Sweet Adelines called the RiversEdge Chorus.

Pie and beverages will be available after the concert.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., will have its annual hymn sing Sunday during its 8 and 9:30 a.m. services.

Songs will be led by Kevin and Ann Benson and Debbie Hanson. The musical ensemble will be directed by Carol Miyamoto and will feature Dan Keberle and Andy Plamondon on trumpet, Tom Molter and Melinda Keberle on trombone, and Paul Raymond on percussion.

Speakers, education and discussion

The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will host the Rev. Michael Dowd Sunday during its 9 and 11 a.m. services.

Dowd will discuss his book, “Thank God for Evolution: How the Marriage and Science of Religion will Transform Your Life and Our World.”

He will also speak at the church Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the topic “The Gospel According to Science: Evolutionary Good News.”

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, both at 3307 W. Rowan Ave., will offer Christian education classes Sundays at 9:30 a.m. from September through June.

There will be an interactive Sunday school class for children of all ages, a confirmation class for older youths, and an adult education class for new and lifelong Christians.

Yard sale

Colbert Chapel, 4922 E. Bernhill Road, Colbert, will host a community yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Colbert Chapel’s Children’s Center.

Items for sale include household goods, crafts, furniture, clothing and collectibles.

The church will also show the movie “Facing the Giants” at dusk Saturday.

Movie-goers should bring blankets and lawn chairs. There will be football contest games before the show.
