Call for workers nets deluge of applications

HollisterStier sought 95

About 2,300 job applications have flooded the north Spokane office of pharmaceutical contract manufacturer HollisterStier Laboratories.

The company, a part of Indian pharmaceutical firm Jubilant Organosys, generated the response after posting ads seeking 95 workers at its Spokane plant.

“This is the largest job turnout that HollisterStier has received at one time,” said Alison Marlin, its marketing communications manager.

Unexpected orders in the past 60 days are driving the hiring. The names of those customers and the drugs they’re producing are confidential, Marlin said.

At least 75 of the new hires will be permanent workers and 20 temporary, according to a company Web site. Marlin said HollisterStier foresees enough future work for the 75 employees.

Most of the new jobs are with HollisterStier’s contract pharmaceutical production group, which mixes or processes compounds used in medicines or new drugs. Marlin said the new jobs include packagers, equipment operators, quality-control staff and support workers.

The company held three open houses for jobseekers, and its human resources office continues reviewing applications. Marlin said the company has more than enough qualified applicants.

Before the hiring spree the company had 535 workers.
