Holsinger’s shot lifts NC over Ferris

Riley Holsinger’s 3-point basket with 10 seconds remaining vaulted the North Central Indians (2-1) to a 44-42 non-league victory over the Ferris Saxons (1-2) on Tuesday night at Ferris.

Holsinger finished with 13 points, while Tara Van Weerdiuizen added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. In other non-league action:

Lewis and Clark 56, Shadle Park 55: Missed free throws were the downfall of the Highlanders (0-1) against the Tigers (1-1) as they hit just 10 of 21 tries and their comeback fell short at Shadle Park. The Tigers were led by 18 points from Hayley Hendricksen and 16 from Devyn Galland.

University 57, East Valley 44: The Titans (1-1) trailed by two at the half, but rallied to outscore the Knights (0-2) 32-16 in the second half, led by Zoe Scott’s 13 points and eight rebounds. Jenni White scored 18 with four assists for the Knights.

Central Valley 65, Mt. Spokane 42: Brooke Gallaway scored 12 of her 17 points in the first half and added six rebounds and the Bears (1-1) defended their home court against the visiting Wildcats (0-3).

Gonzaga Prep 83, Rogers 21: Tia Presley scored 23 and Ashley Largent and Lindsay Stockton each added 13 points as the Bullpups (1-0) beat the Pirates (0-3) at Rogers.

Mead 62, Post Falls 42: Jazmine Redmon tallied 15 points and eight rebounds and after taking a six-point lead into the half, the Panthers (1-0) held the Trojans (4-3, 1-0) to one point in the third quarter to take a commanding lead in their season opener at Mead.

Coeur d’Alene 70, Moses Lake 41: Carli Rosenthal had 24 points and the Vikings (6-0) jumped out to an early 24-8 lead after one quarter en route to a decisive win over the Chiefs in Coeur d’Alene. Starting for the first time with two seniors out sick, freshman Caelyn Orlandi had seven points, four assists and four steals.

Lewiston 75, Clarkston 33: The Bengals (5-1) scored 67 points through three quarters led by Karlee Wilson’s 13 points in beating the Bantams (0-2) in Lewiston.

Cheney 51, Sandpoint 43: Laikyn Brophy had 17 points and Allie Brown added 10 rebounds as the Blackhawks (2-1) beat the Bulldogs (0-6) in Sandpoint.

Freeman 52, Lake Roosevelt 39: Korina Baker led all scorers with 21 points, MacKenzie Taylor added 15 rebounds, five points and five assists and the Scotties (4-0) outran the Raiders for a 12-point halftime lead and rolled to a win in Freeman.

Kellogg 53, Kootenai 7: Ryder Ashcraft scored 11 points and Chelsea Morgan added 10 and the Wildcats (4-2) held the Warriors (0-4) scoreless through the first quarter en route to the victory in Harrison.

Timberlake 60, Clark Fork 25: The Tigers (7-0) broke things open in the third quarter against the Wampus Cats (4-4), outscoring them 23-2 in the frame to put the game away in Spirit Lake.

Riverside 43, Northwest Christian 38: Joni Nagy scored 12 points to go with 14 rebounds and went 6 of 8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to preserve the win for the Rams (1-1) against the Crusaders (1-2) in Riverside.

Lakeside 61, St. George’s 31: Kendra Lahue scored 14 points and the Eagles (3-0) outrebounded the Dragons (2-1) 48-30 to overcome a 23 percent shooting night for a win in Nine Mile Falls.

Kettle Falls 45, Curlew 33: Alexys Hall scored seven points with 12 rebounds and the Bulldogs (3-1) pulled ahead by as many as 20 in the third quarter to beat the Cougars (2-1) in Kettle Falls.

Springdale 50, Chewelah 41: Jerika Cummings scored 18 points and the Chargers (4-0) knocked off the Cougars (0-3) in Chewelah. Sam Beamer led the Cougars with 14 points.

Newport 59, Bonners Ferry 52: Miranda Frederick scored 15 points to go with seven assists and the Grizzlies (3-0) controlled the game early against the Badgers (3-1) jumping out to a 9-0 lead out of the gate in Newport.

Odessa 49, Inchelium 43: Marish Davidson led the Tigers (2-1) with 14 points as they built an eight-point lead after three quarters and held on to beat the Hornets (0-4) in Odessa.

LaCrosse-Washtucna 39, Sprague-Harrington 29: Utilizing their full-court press, the Tigercats (1-1) held the visiting Falcons (0-4) to eight first-half points while getting 13 points from Gladys Martinez in the win.

Wilbur-Creston 47, Soap Lake 41: Caitlin Herdrick and Alex Potts each scored 12 points and the Wildcats (1-2) won their first game in 20 attempts, since January 2008, beating the visiting Eagles.

Selkirk 65, Cusick 46: Courtney Holter had 22 points and Annemarie Cain added 19 as the Rangers (1-3) bounced back from a 10-0 first-quarter deficit to beat the Panthers (0-1) in Ione.

District 9 North

Colton 56, Rosalia 24: Kelsey and Haley Moser each scored 15 points and the Wildcats (2-0, 1-0) opened the league season with a victory over the Spartans (1-2, 0-1) in Rosalia.

St. John-Endicott 54, Garfield-Palouse 31: The Eagles (5-0) pounced early to lead 33-12 by halftime and rolled past the Vikings (0-2), led by Kelly Van Lith’s 17 points, in Palouse.
