Elderly man in critical condition after crash

The Spokesman-Review
An 85-year-old Spokane man is in critical condition after a one-vehicle rollover about 11 a.m. Saturday near Interstate 90. Spokane police said the driver, who was not identified, and his 88-year-old passenger believed to be his wife were westbound on Second Avenue in a 2003 Honda CRV, when the vehicle left the roadway near Altamont, and rolled onto its top. The car ripped out about 40 feet of chain-link fence along I-90 in the process, police said. The cause of the accident is under investigation. Initially witnesses thought the car had driven off I-90, but investigators later determined the vehicle had been traveling on Second, which runs parallel to the freeway, police said. The intersection at Altamont and Second was closed for about four hours following the crash.
