In brief: Crime Stoppers offers cash reward

COEUR D’ALENE – Crime Stoppers of the Inland Northwest is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in two recent malicious harassment incidents in Coeur d’Alene.

The first incident occurred on Nov. 19 at the Human Rights Education Institute, 414 Mullan Ave. An unknown suspect placed a swastika sticker on the entry door of the building. The second incident occurred on Dec. 4 at the corner of Third Street and Coeur d’Alene Avenue. A male resident of Coeur d’Alene with Middle Eastern heritage discovered his vehicle had been damaged by spray paint and a slashed tire. The spray paint depicted a swastika and harassing comments intended for the victim.

Celebrate with Mudgy and Millie

COEUR D’ALENE – Celebrate the holidays with Mudgy the Moose and Millie the Mouse during “Merry Moose-tletoe” on Saturday at the Coeur d’Alene Library, 702 E. Front Ave., beginning at noon.

The Christmas festivities include a reading of “Mudgy and Millie” by author, Susan Nipp, Christmas carols with the Mudgy and Millie characters, and photo opportunities with Santa Claus, Mudgy and Millie. Nipp and local sculptor Terry Lee will also be signing books. Mudgy and Millie items will also be for sale.

Ellen Travolta, Jack Bannon and Sally Dodge will be reading holiday stories to kids in the Shirley Parker Storyroom in the Seagraves Children’s Library. Crafts will be available for kids to do in the craft room.

Proceeds from sales will help support the library.

City plans open house Tuesday

COEUR D’ALENE – The city of Coeur d’Alene will host an open house on Tuesday at the Old City Hall Council Chambers, 710 E. Mullan Ave., from 4 to 6 p.m.

The community is invited to share their feedback on the city’s implementation of its Storm Water Management Program activities.

Commission members sought

BOUNDARY COUNTY – Boundary County Commissioners are seeking letters of interest from members of the community wishing to serve on the Boundary County Planning and Zoning Commission.

Two people will be appointed to fill vacated positions immediately. One position will expire in January 2011; the other will expire in January 2012. A third vacancy will begin Feb. 1 and will run a full four-year term, ending in January 2014.

Those eligible must have been full-time residents of Boundary County for a minimum of two years.

Those submitting letters of interest are asked to attend the planning and zoning meeting on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., for interviews by sitting planning and zoning commissioners.

NIC informational meeting Tuesday

COEUR D’ALENE – A representative from the North Idaho College admissions office will host “NIC at Night” on Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Edminster Student Union Building Driftwood Bay Room.

Those interested in attending NIC will have the opportunity to learn about NIC’s programs and services and receive information on how to get started and financing options.

The event is free and open to the public.
