Life Care Center schedules special events

Special events for potential residents and their families and employees are planned by the new Life Care Center of Post Falls. The 120-bed (38 private and 41 semi-private rooms) nursing home has opened at 460 N. Garden Plaza Court (west of Wal-Mart).

A free lunch and learn session will be 11 a.m. Thursday. The information will include long-term care expense planning and financial retirement issues, followed by a tour of the facility. The center will provide long-term care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation. RSVP by calling 664-8980.

With 130 employees, the facility offers inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapists and treatment options that include an underwater treadmill system. The $19 million facility also includes an ice cream and coffee shop, library, private dining areas and spa-style beauty salon.

A job fair for potential employees will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring references and allow half an hour to fill out applications and a possible short interview.

Construction is under way on another 270,000-square-foot building with 147 independent living beds and 95 assisted-living beds with an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, large meeting room and a putting green. The entire project is projected at $50 million and will offer about 300 jobs. Phone 755-9522.

KC’s Breakfast Club in Post Falls

A busy first week was reported by Ken and Carolyn Jackson, owners of KC’s Breakfast Club, which opened last week at 115 W. Seltice Way (the former Mangia Restaurant).

Fruit blends highlight the house specialties with fruit crêpes, German apple pancakes, Swedish pancakes and special egg dishes. Serving breakfast and lunch for a maximum 54 customers at tables and booths, KC’s is open for breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. They have 10 employees. Phone 773-3764.

The Jacksons moved from Anchorage to North Idaho after visiting relatives here. They’re leasing the building, which originally was an A&W, with an option to buy.

Legends barbers offer $8 haircuts

With $8 haircuts as their way of helping the tough economy (and attracting customers), Legends Barber Shop has opened next to Beach Tanning Salon in Lincoln Professional Center at 1801 Lincoln Way (Highway 95).

Basic men’s haircuts are $8, with styling and special cuts also available. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Drop in or check for openings by phoning 771-3370.

Owners Daniel Abrahamson and Debbie Hising came to North Idaho from North Seattle after visiting relatives here. They have more than 50 years hair-cutting experience between them but “We aren’t too old,” Daniel insisted. They plan to expand into an adjoining space.

This week’s tidbits

•With continual requests from readers and an OK from the editor, here’s the list of restaurants (provided by readers) with loud, annoying music. Caio Mambo and Red Robin easily lead the pack followed by Applebee’s, Chili’s, Bardenay, Outback and White House Grill. Once again, it’s mostly the senior diners who complain, and often a place uses the music to create its ambiance. Meanwhile, Caio Mambo owners say they have toned down the Hayden place. I try to sit away from a speaker.

•Last week’s “whole nine yards” query drew many explanations, with the most common referring to the amount of cloth needed to create a fancy men’s suit and the length of a World War I warplane’s ammunition belt. The former sounds logical when you consider another phrase, “dressed to the nines.”

•Next week watch for information of a new pizza shop, furniture store, farmers market and maybe more. North Idaho might not be suffering economically too much, although Barnes & Noble is wary and evidently no longer coming into a huge space in the Riverstone complex.
