CVHS winter musical will be ‘Secret Garden’

Central Valley High School has selected the classic children’s story “The Secret Garden” as its winter musical. The story follows young Mary Lennox as she moves from India to her new home with her Uncle Archie. Performances of the production will begin Thursday.

Each performance will include a full 20-piece orchestra that includes student and professional musicians. The actors and actresses will be clad in Victorian costumes to bring the story alive on stage.

The play features Kaelee Toth as Lily Craven, Chloe Rhodes as Mary Lennox, Leslie Kruger as Mrs. Medlock, Jack Sorensen as Dr. Neville Craven, Jared Mola as Archibald Craven, Hillary Weisbeck as Martha, Steven Schneidmiller as Ben Weatherstaff, Ashton Toth as Dickon and Andrew Stewart as Colin Craven.

The cast also includes Whitney Veloski as Mrs. Winthrop, Kaleigh Fox as Rose Lennox, Chad Smith as Capt. Albert Lennox, Jason Walker as Fakir, Amanda Seely as Ayah, Brandon Carter as Lt. Wright, James Matney as Lt. Shaw, Tanner Elliott as Maj. Holmes, Christy Finley as Claire Holmes, Tegan Monoghan as Alice, Mariah Crosby as Jane, Ben Salsbury as William, Karissa Elliott as nurse and Chad Smith as Timothy.

The play begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday throuth next Saturday and Feb. 26-28. A matinee is scheduled for 2 p.m. Feb. 22. Tickets are $7 and are available in advance. All performances are assigned seating. Call 228-5218 for tickets. The school is at 821 S. Sullivan Road.

FBLA competition

Students from area high schools recently competed in a regional Future Business Leaders of America competition. The top five winners in each category advance to the FBLA state competition in April in Spokane.

East Valley High School – Accounting II: Molly Sutton, fourth place; Tiffany Layman, fifth place. Business Calculations: Ashley Lafayette, fourth place. Business Communications: Lauren Bergam, third place. Global Business Team: James Dorr and Braxton Ball, third place. Introduction to Technology: Connor Finnigan, first place; Josh Finnigan, second place. Marketing: Sutton, fourth place. Public Speaking II: Audrey Cook, second place. Word Processing I: Josh Finnigan, fifth place. Impromptu Speaking II: Doug Glendenning, third place. Business Ethics Team: Doug Glendenning, Mackenzie Borja and June Mazzone, third place.

Also advancing to state was the Business Presentation Team: Cook, Glendenning and Dorr; Digital Video Production: Samantha Gilson, Lafayette and Bergam; Bree Rigsby in Digital Portfolio and Desiree Rainey in Client Service.

Freeman High School – Public Speaking I: Chelsa Ayers, fourth place; Emerging Business Issues: Ayers and Kim Cook, first place; MacKenzie DeRuyter and Alex Quinnett, third place; Stacy Sainsbury and Felicity Weathers, fourth place. Network Concepts: Andy Coumont, third place. Technology Concepts: Dalton Fetsch, second place; Coumont, fourth place. Network Design: Coumont, Fetsch and Josh Grandinetti, first place. Word Processing II: Fetsch, fifth place. Entrepreneurship: Grandinetti, Cameron Floch and Travis Sorensen, first place; Felicity Weathers, Hanna Weathers and Leah Willard, second place; Audrey Fish, Brandon Hollen and Sara Robinson, third place.
