Mead, SP gymnasts lead way

Mead and Shadle Park won team titles at Mead Middle School on Saturday to advance to state gymnastics meets at Tacoma next weekend.

Mead’s Panthers won the 4A title, edging University by 1.575 points with Central Valley a distant third.

Shadle had an easy time in the 3A/1A meet, rolling up 157.2 points, with Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) second at 129.275.

Alana Norman of the champion Highlanders won the 3A all-around by 1.1 points over Lakeside’s Anande Egland, who also qualified for state.

Norman won the vault and uneven bars while Egland won the balance beam and floor exercise. Each was a runner-up in the events they didn’t win.

In 4A, Kamiakin’s Kayla Curtis won the all-around by less than a point over U-H’s Stacie Davis. Mead’s Taylor Gray placed third.

Curtis won the vault and floor and placed second to Davis on the bars and to Gray on the beam.
