Inmate injured during escape attempt

From Staff Reports

An inmate suffered injuries to her hands and legs Tuesday when she tried to escape from Pine Lodge Corrections Center, officials said.

Chelsea Lawhead, 19, has been at the facility since Feb. 10, said Capt. Bill McDonnell.

Lawhead has a lengthy criminal history that includes bail jumping and theft, officials said. She was most recently convicted of possession of a controlled substance and second-degree driving with a suspended license.

About 11 a.m. Tuesday, Corrections Center staff was alerted to an inmate attempting to climb the fence at the southeast corner of the facility, McDonnell said.

Inmates were on “restricted movement” Tuesday while the incident was investigated, officials said.
