NIC group hosts ski race today at Lookout Pass

The North Idaho College Outdoor Pursuits will host an uphill-downhill ski race today, beginning at 10 a.m. at Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area.

Racers will wear costumes for this end-of-the-season race.

Race entry costs $10, and discount lift tickets and transportation are available through Outdoor Pursuits.

Registration takes place from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

Coalition director to speak at Unity

Jonathan Krutz, executive director of A Better Way Coalition, will be at the Unity Church of North Idaho, 4465 N. 15th St. in Coeur d’Alene, today at 1 p.m. to speak to the Idaho Chapter of Compassion and Choices.

The groups work to seek improvements and guidance on end-of-life issues.

City library offers tax forms on Web site

The Coeur d’Alene Library has forms needed to file state and federal tax returns on its Web site, at www.cdalibrary.org. The forms can be accessed from a link on the left side of the site’s main page by clicking on “Tax Tools.”

The distribution of paper copies of tax forms was discontinued in an effort by the library to reduce paper waste.

Paper forms and other tax publications can still be obtained at the Internal Revenue Service office, 1221 Ironwood Drive, (800) 829-3676, or the Idaho State Tax Commission, 1910 Northwest Blvd., 769-1500.

Recreation group seeks board members

Specialized Needs Recreation is looking for new board members.

Individuals with knowledge in Web design, marketing and public relations are needed to meet the needs of the growing organization.

Volunteers are also needed to serve on the group’s fundraising committee.

The board meets every other month for about two hours to plan, discuss events and make decisions regarding the organization.

Specialized Needs Recreation is a nonprofit organization that provides recreational opportunities to youth and adults with developmental disabilities.

Library offers series of computer workshops

Coeur d’Alene Library, 702 E. Front Ave., will offer eight computer workshops during March and April.

Workshops will take place on Mondays and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Preregistration is not required.

Introduction to Computers will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m., March 9 at 6 p.m., and April 6 at 10:30 a.m. The workshop will provide a basic understanding of computers. Basic typing skills are helpful but not required.

Basics in Excel will be on March 16 at 10:30 a.m. The Excel workshop will help participants explore and understand the parts of the spreadsheet, basic formulas, basic formatting, and editing.

Intermediate Excel will be offered on March 23 at 6 p.m. This workshop will explore Excel’s database functionality, charts and graphs, and formulas. Previous spreadsheet experience is necessary.

Basics in PowerPoint will be held on April 13 at 6 p.m. The PowerPoint workshop will provide the basic skills to begin creating visual presentations through slide manipulation, object use, and transitions with helpful hints for creating an effective presentation.

Setting Up Free E-mail will be held April 20 at 10:30 a.m. This workshop will guide participants through the sign-up process for free e-mail and provide a basic understanding of how to use it.

Surfing the Web will be offered on April 27 at 6 p.m. This workshop will give you a basic understanding of how to search the Internet using search engines such as Google.

Library to host health, wellness fair

The Coeur d’Alene Library, 702 E. Front Ave., will host a Health and Wellness Fair on Tuesday in the Community Room, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event is will include free samples, drawings, and prizes for Wellness Fair participants.

Museum seeking board members

The Museum of North Idaho is now accepting applications for new members for the Board of Trustees. Members should be concerned about the preservation of Coeur d’Alene regional history.

The nominating committee is seeking applicants to fill three-year terms.

UI takes international turn next Saturday

International student ambassadors representing more than 30 countries will visit the University of Idaho Student Union Building next Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the International Ballroom.

The ambassadors will mark mock passports as they offer interactive learning opportunities, teaching campus and community members about their countries and cultures.

The local “global” event will include live entertainment and food from around the world.

Tickets are $6 per person; $4 for students and children ages 4-18. Tickets will be sold at the Student Union information desk the day of the event.
